Decades of research tell us that the connection between our mind and body is real and is evidenced by the fact that untreated depression and anxiety greatly contribute to heart disease, the leading cause of death in the US.
Anxiety, depression and congestive heart disease (CHD) are common conditions and often occur together. However, until recently, little was known about the relationship between them. Now there is evidence to show that depression can be as big a risk factor for CHD as smoking, high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
Additionally, untreated depression and anxiety leave people vulnerable to developing insomnia, obesity and addiction.
